Pallas Citroen

A predominant theme in my work is seduction within the visual space. I am preoccupied with surfaces and facades and imbuing additional or contrary seductive layers in and on to materials of quality or economy. Influences include film sets and spaces of entertainment. It is the idea of escapism and transportation from the everyday that inspires me. I often use poor quality materials from pound shops and markets, transforming materials that parade as glitz and glamour. These materials represent a value system endemic and popular, affordable kitsch, a contemporary decadence, as well as an inequality in the consuming population. I understand the subterfuge and design of fake spaces, of the dressing-up or down of sets, objects and characters in film and theatre and use this, covering up and deceiving for effect.
