Emma Papworth

My practice has developed primarily out of the language of painting. By deconstructing, dividing and restructuring the canvas I aim to approach painting as a means of instigating dialogues with other objects, environments and people. Playing upon a language of architecture and industrial production, I have been making forms though a process of casting and filling which establish relationships between the body and simple unitary objects. I am interested in how these sculptures might perform collectively like figures, whilst at the same time lend themselves to the logic of sets, series series, modules' associated with mass production. My current work is based around a preoccupation with the definition of a 'subjectile' meaning the work or this can take the place of a subject or object - existing as neither one nor the other.
