Tessan Watabe

Tessan Watabe is the winner of the Semi-Grand Prix Liquitex Art Prize.

Tessan tries to represent unreal, creating colourful paintings of his dreams.

'I expand my views of the world in my work. I try to capture energy and fun although loneliness comes into play, too. I use colours and stylized forms which result in an almost classical cartoonesque quality. I try to provide the viewer with a perspective on daily activities we all undertake with our lovers, friends and families. I use my imagination when I create the works so that these mundane experiences are not quite what they seem.'

Exhibited at Griffin Gallery in New Work From Japan in October 2013.
