'My first impression was just how important and how much impact free radicals actually had on our lives. At the completion of the residency I was more aware of the potential innovations, usage and application research in this field can have on our future. I saw that the knowledge and understanding gained in this area was imperative to our advancement and filled with potentials. Alternatively it was quite sobering to see the damage free radicals can have on the environment and within the human system, and that free radical reactions aren’t always controllable or quantifiable. I saw by the end of the lab visit that by continued processes of working towards a scientific understanding we can harness the positive effects of free radicals and better deal with their associated downsides.'
