Mark Connolly
www.mark-connolly.comMaking extensive research trips into London, Mark Connolly will be looking for structures to transform in the studio into his ongoing 'Slow Heights' series of large format, mixed media drawings.
'Slow Heights is an ongoing exploration into fictional, constructed lands. These barren, abandoned lands are occupied only by industrial remains. The drawings are made in an accumulative fashion, overlapping and overwriting observations over observations before filtering foreign matter into the depicted spaces. It is my intention to use the project thus far as a springboard onto larger, expanded representational drawings.'
The continuation of the project in London will introduce immediate changes in the direction of the drawings. Space has and will continue to remain the common ground between individual drawings. The journey as research component within the drawings alone, will have a significant role to play, in that journeys will be longer and more frequently into unknown terrain. I imagine the urban sprawl stretching and weaving its way through the larger works.'
