Alzbeta Jaresova
www.jaresova.comAlzbeta Jaresova is the winner of the inaugural Griffin Art Prize, UK 2012.
Jaresova has been working in the artists’ studio above the Griffin Gallery exploring themes of physical and psychological confinement. Alzbeta makes beautifully rendered drawings, paintings and three dimensional models. She took the opportunity to re-discover oil paints and making artworks with her characteristically subdued palette. Alzbeta Jaresova experimented with the drying times of different Winsor & Newton mediums to create thin layers of paint that allow for a play between the image and the ground.
'The Griffin Art Prize studio residency has provided me with significant support on my way towards a professional art practise. It has given me creative freedom and allowed my artistic processes to develop without the weight of external constrains.
During its six months duration, I was able to submerge myself completely into my practise and as a result, saw my work develop in a new and exciting way. Apart from enjoying a large studio space and having high quality materials at my disposal, I had the unique opportunity to engage with the Innovation & Development Laboratory. This gave me an insight into products and processes that I would not have considered otherwise and gave me a chance to contribute to the chemists’ research.
Working alongside the committed Griffin Gallery team has been a great pleasure and has made the studio programme an invaluable experience. The residency provided me with the time and space to focus and learn a great deal not only about my practise, but also about myself as an artist and my methods of working.'
