Ian Robinson

My practice is situated within the enthusiasts’ world of collecting, where the objects brought together are part of the collectors’ self-identity.

It began with a simple painting of my record collection when I was still at college. I found that the painting encapsulated the precise memories and experiences associated with my music collection

There are connections with ownership and with items that ‘persist and circulate’ in my work. Influence has been taken from researching the collections of public institutions, from the family bookshelf to record shops and music equipment.
