Griffin Art Prize Updates
Applications for Griffin Art Prize UK 2014 closed on Sunday, the prize received over 200 applications this year.
For anyone who does not know what Griffin Art Prize is, it is Griffin Gallery’s annual competition for emerging artists and is open to recently graduated art students who work primarily in painting and drawing. The winner of the competition will be offered a six month residency at ColArt Head Office with unlimited art supplies from Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris, as well as a solo show at Griffin Gallery.
The prize is entering its third year; previous winners are Alzbeta Jaresova from 2012 and Luke George and Elizabeth Rose from 2013. Alzbeta had a successful solo show in 2013 and has just been shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize. Luke George and Elizabeth Rose are nearing the end of their residency at ColArt and are preparing for their solo show which will open onWednesday 10th September.
The team is very excited about this year’s prize; and, having had a look through the applications, we are sure that the shortlist show in November will be one to be seen! The applications are now being judged by our team of judges: Gordon Cheung, Jenny Lindén Urnes, Jenni Lomax, Alastair Smart and Anj Smith.
