The Fine Art Collective (TFAC) is a global social network for artists, with art materials at its heart. Griffin Gallery supports TFAC with a residency opportunity enabling members to realise projects or undertake research otherwise unfeasible in their place of study or work.
Ma Jawei sees the changes to the city; she sees the environment she has been accustomed to change into something different. She senses the unrest that this brings.
Ma is not building a space of super-reality but instead letting her own eyes pierce through the aspects of life we have created. Her thoughts on the city and its environment are not abstract imagination but her real discoveries. She has made what it’s familiar to us unfamiliar: the feeling akin to upon entering a strange village far from our own. She uses her own realizations to wipe any blemishes from her own eyes, allowing her eyes to see every city’s stain and mark. She is sensitive to all such things: turning the ordinary to the mysterious.
