Residency: The Fine Art Collective

Jose Luis Valverde

3 – 31 July 2017

The Residency:

The Fine Art Collective (TFAC) is a global social network for artists, with art materials at its heart. Griffin Gallery supports TFAC with a residency opportunity enabling members to realise projects or undertake research otherwise unfeasible in their place of study or work.

‘The Garden’ is a series of narrative paintings inspired by the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. I am continuing my research into the still life genre, not only as a space to experiment with painting, but as an added element to a scenario where things occur. Still life is immersed in landscape painting, the landscape being the contextualizing component of  the series. The project will be composed of small and large format oeuvres that will initiate a dialogue, highlighting the arising para-textual relationships.

Jose Luis Valverde:

José Luis Valverde graduated in Fine Art from the University of Malaga where he’s currently undertaking a PhD.

José is a painter using photography and cinema in his practice, as narrative links between his different paintings and reference of their formal, figurative and special differences.
