5 – 30 June 2017
Project Based Residencies at Griffin Gallery are shorter residencies offering artists studio space, materials and specialised knowledge. Artists are encouraged to develop innovative projects focussed on the interaction, composition or application of Fine Art materials.
Louise Giovanelli is developing a new set of palettes as a result of her research on colour schemes of five painterly movements (Sienese, Florentine, Venetian, Early Netherlandish, Pre-Raphaelite).
‘After identifying the pigments used, I intend to build a palette of approximately 5 colours (paint tubes) per movement, using the modern day equivalents found within the Winsor & Newton range.’
As part of this research project Louise will use these colours to make new paintings during her month Project Based Residency at Griffin Gallery.
'My previous practice has been informed by ways of looking and perceiving, with the act of looking itself as a kind of content. I use painting as a site for speculation, contemplation and play, interweaving cultural references, personal histories and other art forms into compositions that investigate languages of painting both past and present'
